I have to admit, that I have a huge collection of things to connect to the Arduinos (like GPS, GSM, all kind of temperature humidity and pressure sensors, radar modules, ultrasonic sensors, gas sensors, a variety of displays etc. I was using this Arduino to try out some code, before I receive the prototype, that I have developed. The hard work had been done by somebody else and you can learn from many online tutorials.
There are plenty of (cheap) sensors and stuff, that you can connect to the Arduino and it is pretty easy, because you can download libraries for those sensors. They all had their own ideas and I just had to help sometimes. After half a day, they were trying out things like letting LEDs blick, meassuring temperature and displaying it on an LCD display, let a DC motor spin, remote controlling that DC motor etc. Last year, I had to take care of a group of 13-16 year old students, who were all new to programming. You only need a USB-B cable for powering and programming the board. The Uno comes for 3€ all the way from China. It is dirty cheap on ebay, ali-express, banggood etc. The Arduino is a fun toy for everybody, who wants to learn coding, play with micro-controllers or jst want to try out an idea.
